Webb Observations Suggest Lava Planet TOI-561 b Retains an Atmosphere
JWST observations suggest ultra-hot TOI-561 b has a substantial atmosphere, based on a cooler-than-expected dayside and evidence of heat redistribution. Silicate clouds and gases supplied by a lava ocean are possible explanations, but the atmosphere’s composition and persistence mechanism remain uncertain and need follow-up.
