Three Early-Universe Supermassive Black Holes Found in One Galaxy

Webb observations suggest a galaxy that existed about 1.2 billion years after the Big Bang contains three actively feeding supermassive black holes. The system could illuminate how enormous black holes formed so early and may eventually undergo a merger, but mass estimates and the interpretation remain under study.
