First California Federal Ruling Applies SB 690 Retroactively to Tracking Claim
On October 20, a Northern District of California court applied SB 690 retroactively to bar a CIPA §638.51 pen-register claim in a website-tracking suit. The court separately found wiretapping allegations insufficient and rejected economic-injury theories, while allowing amendment of a state constitutional privacy claim; the decision is an early district-court signal, not settled law.
