First direct detection of a wandering supermassive black hole via tidal disruption flare
AI from ZTF identified a tidal disruption event 30,000 light-years from a galaxy center, confirming a dormant SMBH wandering in the outskirts. This is the first direct detection of such a wandering black hole, opening a new window on black hole demographics and galaxy merger history. Rubin is expected to find dozens yearly.
