FCPS Fiscal Crisis Deepens with Deficit, Audit Shortfall and Payroll-Control Failures

FCPS reports a nearly $5.4 million unreserved-fund deficit, not final and separate from the approximately $22 million audit shortfall. The district faces a Dec. 15 state audit deadline, a $95 million short-term loan and continued scrutiny of payroll controls, staffing cuts and leadership accountability; transportation employees are also seeking Teamsters recognition, creating a new labor issue to follow.
