Volusia and Ormond Beach codify data-center restrictions

Volusia County Council passed a 6–0 ban Oct. 20 on hyperscale data centers with anticipated monthly peak loads above 50 megawatts. Ormond Beach commissioners have also codified a prohibition, but case-by-case utility-service and annexation decisions remain possible, and the meaning of “extraordinary demands” is unclear. Smaller facilities and potential state-law changes remain unresolved.
