Sea-level rise and hurricane risk are driving U.S. insurance pressure

Human-caused sea-level rise accounted for roughly 80% of U.S. coastal flood days from 2016–2025, while flooding frequency more than tripled since the 2000s. New Bay Area reporting warns that a Kelvin wave associated with El Niño could raise local sea levels by up to a foot this fall, adding near-term coastal-flooding concerns to broader insurance and climate affordability pressures.
