House advances federal data-center ratepayer protections

The House passed a bipartisan ratepayer-protection bill 417–3, generally requiring data centers and other large customers above 100 megawatts to cover incremental generation, transmission, and distribution costs and provide financial assurances against abandonment. The Senate path, FERC jurisdiction, and effects on AI infrastructure remain open.
