Virginia falls to West Virginia in first major test

Virginia lost 38-27 to West Virginia on Sept. 19 in Charlotte after taking an early lead and surrendering control. Michael Hawkins Jr.'s five-touchdown performance, WVU's tempo and pressure, Virginia's reduced quarterback-run threat, 437 yards allowed and a missed late field goal defined the defeat. Jekail Middlebrook's 90-yard, two-touchdown performance is a constructive offensive takeaway.
