Everglades swings from drought and fire toward recovery
Recent rainfall restored surface water, replenished aquifers, revived wildlife activity, and helped airboat tours resume after prolonged drought. Recovery remains uneven after nearly 24,000 acres burned; peat soils, wading-bird habitat, Florida Bay salinity, invasive species, and water-management policy remain major concerns.
