Atlanta and metro crime, safety concerns, and police oversight

APD says overall crime is down 13% year to date and shootings are down 23%, but aggravated assaults are up 24%. A new federal investigation alleges a gang-linked operation stole nearly 1,500 firearms and trafficked guns and drugs through the Atlanta region; 20 people were charged, more than 70 guns and conversion devices were recovered, and fugitives or additional weapons may remain outstanding. Other violent-crime investigations, Halloween safety concerns, Flock-camera safeguards, and police-accountability debates remain active.
