Reshaping housing, infrastructure, and recreation across the city

Citrus Heights on the Move

Citrus Heights is undergoing a visible wave of redevelopment, from 26 new Habitat for Humanity homes and expanded ADU projects to the proposed Sunrise Sports Center at Sunrise Mall and a preserved skating tradition under new ownership at Sunrise Rollerland. Major infrastructure and land-use moves include roadwork on Oakwood Hills Circle, an overnight Sunrise Boulevard closure for a transformer replacement, demolition of a fire-damaged commercial site, and the Roseville–Citrus Heights Gateway Activation Project. At the policy level, the city is debating a massive 10-year residential waste contract, updating encroachment permit processes, and replacing a rarely used appeals board, signaling a shift toward more streamlined oversight. Together, these changes reflect a city rethinking how its land, services, and public spaces support residents’ daily lives and long-term growth.
