Hawk remains 98% contained across 15,085 acres and Floriston is 75% contained, while the Hirschdale ignition remains uncharacterized and the Bull Fire is about 1,100 acres. Dry fuels and illegal burns continue to elevate risk around Carson Valley; Carson City’s planned deployment of about 1,200 grazing sheep beginning Oct. 17 adds a new fuel-reduction experiment. Bug Fire suppression-line repairs, insurance gaps and hazard-mitigation planning remain urgent.
