Bay Area Murals Face Escalating Threats

Four Clarion Alley murals were recently painted over, adding to defacement of Berkeley’s Sinbad Voyage mural and Benicia’s Together We Rise mural. Restoration campaigns and repainting plans show community resistance, while projects such as Berkeley’s Eighty Foot Dahlias, San Rafael’s civic murals, and a new East Bay mural honoring Alysa Liu demonstrate the continuing importance of public art and its preservation.
