Hawai‘i falls to San José State 20–16 and drops to 0–3 in Mountain West play

The Oct. 3 rivalry loss exposed continuing problems with penalties, turnovers, red-zone execution, receiver availability and rushing production. Hawai‘i’s 38.3% third-down rate and 37 penalties for 272 yards through five games reinforce the execution concerns despite approximately 435–438 total yards.
