Phillies designate Garrett Stubbs for assignment, raising catching-depth questions

Philadelphia designated Stubbs for assignment after he hit .153/.215/.153 with no homers in 35 games; his career Phillies line is .212/.292/.300. The catching group’s weak offense, Realmuto’s workload and Marchán’s uncertain role leave the backup plan unresolved; Stubbs’s waiver outcome and any replacement are not yet reported.
