Michigan survives Western Michigan in Whittingham’s debut

Michigan escaped Western Michigan 13-12 on Sept. 5 after a reviewed clock decision left one second for a second-chance Hail Mary; the Big Ten upheld the ruling. Western Michigan president Russ Kavalhuna continues to criticize the replay and clock-review process, but the larger concern remains Michigan’s three turnovers, offensive stagnation, weak rushing production, nine penalties, poor tackling and Western Michigan’s control of the game. Oklahoma is now the immediate corrective test.
