New Planning System & Renewable Investment Pipeline
Parliament has passed a new planning framework intended to replace the RMA system with more standardised rules, fewer applications and faster upfront decisions, with potentially significant implications for renewable generation, transmission and electrification infrastructure. Tauhei’s July energisation, Anza Power’s acquisition of 205 MWac/236 MWdc of consented solar projects and Lodestone’s possible IPO provide concrete investment signals. Community and iwi-led solar models add a distributed-ownership dimension, but project scale, financing, implementation and environmental safeguards remain unresolved.
