CDC Rabies Exposure and Post-Exposure-Prophylaxis Advisory
CDC reports a 17% rise in rabies exposure inquiries, increased PEP use, and treatment errors in multiple U.S. jurisdictions. Petting-zoo and other animal-contact incidents add concrete exposure examples, but do not establish a confirmed rise in human rabies cases. Education should emphasize immediate wound washing, urgent public-health assessment, correct immune-globulin placement, vaccination timing, and completion of the series.
