Park Development and Green Initiatives
A major highlight is the upcoming opening of Erlanger Park, scheduled for April. This newly renovated green space features shade structures, modern seating, and a variety of recreational amenities designed to promote family gatherings and outdoor leisure. The community is eager to celebrate its debut, which will include special events and the presence of Looie the Lookout, the Chattanooga Lookouts’ mascot, engaging with children and families.
Further expanding its green footprint, Chattanooga recently purchased a 14.3-acre wooded site at Gray Road and Igou Gap Road in East Brainerd. The city plans to develop this site into a park and ecological preserve, increasing accessible outdoor space and providing opportunities for environmental education and community connection.
In addition to new parks, the city is promoting urban forestry through its Tree Giveaway Program. Starting March 14, residents can receive two free trees in partnership with EPB Energy Pros and Reflection Riding Arboretum. This initiative aims to enhance neighborhood greenery, improve air quality, and foster environmental awareness among residents.
Skate Facilities and Youth Recreation
Recognizing the importance of youth outdoor recreation, Chattanooga has made significant investments in skateboarding facilities. A temporary skate park at the Chattanooga Convention Center has been open through April 30, 2026, providing a safe, accessible space for skaters of all ages.
