FDA approval of pritelivir (Hovilpri) provides the first novel-mechanism HSV treatment in decades for refractory or resistant infection in immunocompromised adults. A randomized phase 3 result showed substantially higher complete healing than investigator's choice, but independent publication, safety, durability, resistance management, and access remain important uncertainties.
