Illinois legislative watchdog resignation renews ethics-reform fight

The legislative inspector general/watchdog is set to leave Sept. 30, prompting Republican calls for stronger subpoena authority, campaign-fund restrictions, pension limits, recall elections, confidentiality protections, and other oversight reforms. The issue is likely to return during the November veto session, but Democratic leadership has not yet provided a full response and no reforms have been enacted.
