School Consolidation Plan Moves to County Council with $62M Funding Gap

Vigo County Commissioners approved Option 6.2 (new east side high school) without a property tax referendum. Funding ask: $15M upfront from county, $6M/year ongoing, plus $2M/year from city (casino tax). Mayor Sakbun expressed cautious support. County Council vote in September. The $100M foundation commitment (previously $94M) has Dec. 31 deadline; $62M shortfall remains. School board voter guide available for Nov. 2026 election.
