SC Ports Harbor-Deepening and North Charleston Industrial Catalyst

SC Ports and the U.S. Army Corps have formally launched a feasibility study for extending the authorized 52-foot channel and improving the upper harbor near the former paper mill and WestRock site. A separate feasibility and safety study is examining nuclear-powered cargo ships, but neither effort approves construction or operations; costs, timing, environmental review, security, traffic, employment, and nearby housing impacts remain unknown.
