New Jersey Education Funding and Ocean County School Taxes

The proposed bill removing the 6% cap on formula-based school-aid increases could provide Toms River about $3.9 million, but it is not enacted. Local pressure continues through the district’s roughly $306 million 2026–27 budget, reported 4.9% tax-levy increase, transportation and special-education costs, and scrutiny of Superintendent Michael Citta’s reported raise. Sherrill is also being pressured over a federal education tax-credit program with a January opt-in deadline and competing claims about public-school funding.
