Refund Delays, Identity Theft & IRS Scam Crisis

Identity-verification filters continue to hold legitimate refunds, with reported delays approaching 20 months in some identity-theft cases. New reporting cites 7.5 million flagged returns and $82.1 billion in held refunds, while a separate report cites more than 50,000 taxpayers without updates and $124.2 million in refund interest. The IRS is also warning about fictitious Tribal Tax Credits and other impersonation scams.
