IRS Automatic Penalty Relief Transition

The Automatic Exemption from Penalty program is expected to replace First Time Abate during summer 2026 for taxpayers with three clean prior years. It may automatically remove certain failure-to-file, failure-to-pay and failure-to-deposit penalties, but not tax or interest. Taxpayers should review notices rather than assume relief applies.
